The Science Council helped to shape the careers programme for The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair.
The Big Bang is a free, annual event led by the Engineering UK and developed in partnership with over 70 organisations from business & industry, government and the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) community. Featuring the National Science and Engineering Competition, The Fair aims to excite, educate, stimulate and enthuse young people about opportunities in STEM, inspiring them to follow careers in this rewarding field.
The first fair took place March 2009 and the 2010 event in Manchester attracted 23,500 people including 15,000 children and young people. The 2011 event was held in London with 29,000 visitors and in 2012 it will visit Birmingham.
Careers programmeThe Science Council worked closely with Engineering UK to develop the careers programme for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 events to ensure The Fair proved to be more than just a fun day out. The careers provision at The Fairs included a Careers Quest which is a set of activities, questions and tasks to be undertaken by young people visiting the event.
